Capertee Valley Landcare Inc.

Capertee Valley Landcare Inc. (CVL) promoted wellbeing and mental health through regenerating and connection the community to assist them to better respond to the economic downturn, financial problems, increase isolation and disruption of support networks, and the psychological and emotional impacts the extended drought has brought to farming communities.  

Four events were held including including a movie night and engagement evening, regeneration workshops, community dinner, mental health workshop, art demonstrations and community bushwalks.

The movie night in particular was a huge success, with over 145 members of the community turning out for an evening presentation followed by an outdoor viewing of the movie ‘2040’.

CVL partnered with Cementa Inc. to support and facilitate a large-scale community driven weaving project that saw a woven ephemeral sculpture installed in the landscrope, reflecting on the principles of hydrological function being explored through the various workshops of the project. The project was led by local artist Leanne Thompson and involved community weaving workshops, online interaction via a dedicated facebook group, several working bees and the installation and viewing event of the final work.

   

Project Lead, Kerrie, said "The social events and the opportunity to generate community cohesion through the exploration of methods for building drought resilience in our valley were definitely the highlights of our program."
