Horse Care and Mentoring Program

The Horse Care and Mentoring Program provides a safe and culturally supportive space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are at risk of self-harm or suicide.

The program is designed to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through hands-on horse care training, cultural connection and mentorship. Participants will learn essential equine skills while building confidence, responsibility, and pathways to future work opportunities in animal care.

Who can apply?

The program is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples aged 13 years and over living in the Hawkesbury and Penrith, with limited places available for people living in the Blue Mountains and Lithgow regions.

How to join?

Community members can self-refer. Referrals are open for four separate intakes until July 2026. Referrals are open across four intakes running until July 2026. The next intake will run from February to April 2026.
