Community Involvement

When health consumers are connected into the process of delivering health services there are better results all round. We work closely with the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) to involve consumers in the design and delivery of health services, as well as consulting with consumers about health issues.

Health Consumer Working Groups

With NBMLHD, we have set up Health Consumer Working Groups to connect with local health consumers. This follows the success of earlier community consultations and ongoing work by members to keep the organisations up to date with the latest issues affecting health consumers.

The Working Groups are made up of volunteers who know their communities, speak for their communities and report back to their communities.

Health Consumer Representatives:

  • Help ensure services are delivered more effectively and efficiently
  • Assist with the planning and design of health programs
  • Help health organisations understand community members' health needs and attend to them
  • Share health stories and experiences to help improve services

We support Health Consumer Working Group members by ensuring that resources, orientation, training and other forms of assistance are offered. You can learn about NBMLHD's consumer engagement on their website, or by calling 4734 2693.

While issues raised by consumers and carers in relation to healthcare are addressed at the local level by the Health Consumer Working Groups, our joint Community Advisory Committee tackles issues at a regional level.

We always welcome the chance to learn from new people and we are currently seeking new members for our consumer program.

Please note: a prerequisite for becoming a volunteer health consumer for us is a successful police check.
