headspace Hawkesbury Consortium Member (GP)

13 November 2023

A new headspace Centre, operated by Uniting NSW.ACT, will be opening in Richmond in December. The Centre will be located in the Richmond Mall complex at 120 Francis Street, Richmond, which is easily accessible for young people, as it is close to public transport, local schools, shops and cafes, with ample parking.

headspace is an early intervention mental health service for 12-25 year olds that also delivers support in the areas of physical and sexual health, assistance with alcohol and other drugs, employment and education support, as well as information and support for parents and carers.

We are working closely with Uniting NSW.ACT to deliver the service, and extensive community consultation has been undertaken to ensure the site is youth friendly and creates a safe and welcoming environment. Uniting has more than 40 years’ experience in developing and implementing mental health and community service programs, and currently operate three other headspace services in Katoomba, Penrith and Mount Druitt. Uniting NSW.ACT is committed to building strong and smooth referral pathways for young people to access this service and are keen to work closely with Hawkesbury GPs and their patients.

Consortium membership draws together local expertise in clinical and non-clinical areas and has an advisory role that is separate to the governance (both clinical and corporate) functions of the headspace Centre.

A GP consortium member is sought to offer their expertise in physical health for young people with mental health concerns. The commitment will be 1.5-2 hours for six occasions throughout the year. Time will be remunerated at the rate of $145 per hour.

GPs who are interested in this opportunity are invited to contact Shona Dutton via email or by calling 0401 629 426.
