Lithgow Outreach Speech Therapy Program
Forms of trauma can affect a child’s development in different ways, including a child’s confidence to communicate effectively and use different types of communication. This could lead to problems understanding what people say, how to express themselves and learning to read. Speech therapy can help children impacted by trauma to build their confidence to communicate effectively using different types of communication, language and speech skills.
Through funding from the Rural Doctors Network, we commission Lithgow Community Projects and Direct Focus Solutions who work in partnership to deliver vital speech therapy services to identified individuals. A speech therapist works one day a month with children who have been impacted by domestic violence and/or homelessness who have accessed crisis accommodation in the Lithgow region.
